DMC History

DMC was founded in 1983 and is the largest DJ organisation in the world with its headquarters in the UK. Over the decades it has successfully expanded into the youth market with music, magazines and the legendary DMC World DJ Championship with branches in over 32 countries.

DMC was the world's first DJ mix service and still today provides the DJ world with a monthly membership of the latest remixes / megamixes / two trackers / cut ups and promos.

DMC published MIXMAG the biggest selling music magazine ever which we developed over 15 years with monthly sales of over 150,000 copies. The magazine became the bible to DJs and dance music fans and was pivotal to the emergence and success of the modern DJ and clubbing scene.

In addition to maintaining the DMC clothing and merchandise lines, the company has successful music compilation CDs including Back to Mine, (once described by NME magazine as: 'Probably the greatest compilation series ever').

The DMC World DJ Championships was launched in 1985 and has become the world's number one and longest running DJ Competition in the world with an uncountable world-wide fan base and cult following. It is the only world-wide music based competition, sponsored for 27 years by Technics in Japan.

To become a DMC World DJ Champion, DJs around the world use techniques such as scratching and cutting to create their own musical arrangements before a live audience.

In DMC battles, legends are created. Becoming a DMC National Champion continues to be one of the most sought after titles for DJ's worldwide! To then become the WORLD CHAMPION is their biggest dream of all.

DMC Champions on all levels have gone on to form major careers - for instance:

Roc Raida (1995 DMC World Champion) was the DJ for Busta Rhymes

A-Trak (1997 DMC World Champion) DJs for Kanye West

Mix Master Mike (2x World Champion) DJs for The Beastie Boys

DJ Enferno (2003 DMC US Champion) DJs for Madonna

DJ IQ (Young UK DMC Champion) DJs for Professor Green

DMC maintains the world's premier DJ web site. The company have managed Sasha whilst Digweed has been signed to their public label STRESS RECORDS. They also managed Brothers in Rhythm who created the musical bridge for Kylie Minogue from PWL to her new career starting with 'Confide in Me' which was recorded in DMC's own studios.

Most DJs recognise the influence of DMC and all of them saw their careers expanding once the company had featured them on the cover of Mixmag back in the day. It is commonly recognised that top club brands such as Ministry of Sound, Cream, Renaissance and Ibiza club culture were all founded on the focus provided to them through DMC's exposure in Mixmag.

DMC are now looking forward with great excitement to the new generation of DJs.
We have recognised in recent years the need and demand for new technology and the DMC Online DJ Championship allows us to embrace all technology.
For the first time, the DMC Online Championship gives every DJ in any country in the world the opportunity to compete in the world's most famous DJ events.

Good luck from the DMC team - we'll all be watching you!

Tony Prince.
