As we await the final decisions of the DMC World DJ Champions I want to reflect on those sitting just below the top.
Dr.Weevil you old evil on the needle, what’s that great tune you close your set with? It reminds me of Astrud Gilberto or Sade, a very unusual track which suggests to me you are an original thinker or you have a real strange record collection?
Original thinkers win the DMC’s because they can do it in the mix – whatever the tune!
Spanx: at 1.30 into your 2 minutes you got a real nice groove going and your opening would definitely win you audience, it would certainly win you two rounds with Mike Tyson ☺ But, and I’m risking you coming to find me, I have to say you were disjointed, an example maybe of too many elements in too few minutes. But you have what it takes, you just have to make it work for you. See you down the gym!
I mentioned DJ Kussy, he of the hat, the Japanese bare-footer. This guy has got style and can become a winner.

DJ As-One aka The Thai Turntable Terrorist (TTT), well done, you’ve come zooming up the Top 10 and are on the verge of greatness. Look at your computer screen. If you’d just angled it to the right a little you would have lost that glare which is a little distracting from your work. I like your camera angle but would have liked to see your right hand at work which required you to raise the camera and point it down a little.
YOU SHOULD ALL CONSIDER VISUAL PRESENTATION AND COMPOSITION. It’s got nothing to do with turntablism but it keeps people watching your full two minute set which is half the battle especially if you let the best juice loose late into your performance.
ALSO….As-One you didn’t show us your face but we’ll accept the reflection of you in the framed picture behind the computer screen!!!
Don’t be so bloody shy out there, let’s see who you are, you’re only on this planet once and this is your time to shine. Can you imagine what it would be like if we didn’t know what Q-Bert looked like, or Craze or LigOne or Elvis Presley!!!!! WE WANT TO SEE WHO YOUR ARE.
Show us your face and remember, it’s ok to put some make-up on if you’re ugly!
Rik C has come into the frame. Rik is also entered into one of the UK heats and if he doesn’t make Top 2 in an ONLINE round, the experience he is gaining, the confidence he is building in knowing people have liked what he’s done, will give him one hell of an edge in a live event. THAT’S WHY BUDDING TURNTABLISTS SHOULD BE IN HERE EVEN THOUGH YOU FEEL YOU WON’T WIN!
Of course in the LIVE DMC’s Rik would not be able to bring his keyboard onto the stage so look how he uses it with his triggering and sampling but…more importantly, look at the length of time he spends before getting into the real action, he’s almost won the event within 25 seconds!!! What an exciting opening. Well done Rik C and well done the voters who brought him up to No.3 as I speak.
EPSR was down at the bottom on votes and anyone who opens with a Johnny Cash record deserves all they get!!!
Here comes Round 6, the half way point has been reached as we seek the top 22 DJs in the world for an amazing August/September battle frontier. Then we’ll look forward to the LIVE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIOPS and we’ll all be wondering if the ONLINE DMC CHAMPION will take the ultimate crown and become an instant DJ legend?
It is simply going to be FANTASTIC. There are now only 12 places left in that final….might we put up a reserved sign with your name on it?
I’m off to France with Sally for meetings all next week so will communicate with you from down there. WHERE ARE ALL THOSE GREAT FRENCH DJ’s BY THE WAY? IT’S A COMPLETE MYSTERY AND I HOPE WILFRID DeBAISE (DMC France) HASN’T SET UP A HOLLYWOOD PRODUCER TO FILM SOMEONE PROFESSIONALLY! Wilfrid, you see, does not like to loose, he fucking hates Nelson and can’t even read the details of the Battle of Hastings! I think he lost a great great great Uncle there.

. You are right I threw in two things that were not in my routine last minute while recording. I also had to cut the video cause i was a 13 seconds over with my logo and outro. The full set is accessible from my profile. Good luck to all the Turntablists entering the online battle.
